Fiscal Health in 2010

Thoughts by CFHC’s President & CEO
Margie Fites Seigle

Fiscal well-being is a huge issue for many women and their families in California.  Not only is fiscal health a concern of individuals and families but also a concern for numerous not-for-profit organizations, including many of the community-based clinics that provide sexual and reproductive health services to low-income uninsured and underinsured individuals throughout the state.

Those fiscal health concerns were exacerbated with the release of the California Governor’s FY10-11 budget, which has slated multiple health care programs for de-funding.  During the many months of budget discussions and deliberations, CFHC will continue the partnership with various advocacy groups and clinics to voice the need for continued funding for essential clinical and support services.

CFHC will continue to provide opportunities for clinics and not-for-profits to work together to make the most efficient use of scarce resources.
Many of CFHC programs as well as other programs identified in this newsletter help clinics and not-for-profits improve and maintain their fiscal health so they can serve their communities.

These services include:

  • Technical assistance;
  • The Cooperative Purchasing Program;
  • The California Benefits Alliance for Nonprofits (formerly VEBA);
  • Affordable, customized training offering continuing education units;
  • On-line, updated health education materials.

We open our doors every day because our communities need the services provided by Title X Delegate Agencies and Family PACT providers statewide. We must collaborate, coordinate and reduce duplication in order to make the most efficient use of limited resources. CFHC is here and ready to expand partnerships so that community doors remain open.
