PUBLIC POLICY COORDINATOR - Los Angeles, CA

The California Family Health Council (CFHC) is seeking a Public Policy Coordinator with excellent research, writing, and analytical skills that can work independently and with a broad range of coalition partners.

The Public Policy Coordinator will support CFHC’s local, state, and federal policy priorities including the issue areas of reproductive health care, family planning, comprehensive sex education, health care coverage, clinic licensing, and HIV/AIDS programs among others. 

Duties associated with the position include analyzing and tracking legislation;  developing and managing policy related programs; providing policy updates to affiliated clinic staff; representing CFHC in various coalitions; communicating with policymakers and their staff; and preparing communications (blogs, action alerts, fact sheets and other materials). 

This position is additionally responsible for all departmental administrative functions.

Major responsibilities:

  • Creates and prepares data, charts, tables, maps, presentation materials, reports, and other vital information for the division. 
  • Coordinates logistics for assigned meetings as needed; polling for attendance, scheduling and setting up rooms, taking minutes and arranging for refreshments and/or meals. 
  • Providing presentations to affiliated clinics and community members on current policy issues.
  • Assists in developing and coordinating public policy programs.
  • Tracks and monitors legislation as determined by CFHC’s Board of Directors.  
  • Assists in developing and coordinating policy forums on public health and family planning related topics.
  • Represents CFHC at meetings and conferences throughout California as needed.
  • Coordinates legislative visits for CFHC staff and for CFHC sponsored events. 
  • Manage MS Access legislator database and online bill tracking database.
  • Some travel, locally and across the state, is required. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills
  • Experience with program development and management
  • Excellent computer skills.  Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as administrative skills.  Familiarity with MS Access a plus. 
  • Familiarity with state and federal policy making
  • Enthusiasm for public and reproductive health programs
  • Attention to detail is necessary
